Description
Native to Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Borneo this species that has flowers similar to pandurata but smaller in scale being about 3" across. The apple green flowers with black web like patterns in the in the textured lip. Warning! These grow on very long rhizomes (stolons) between the pseudobulbs that elongate to about 4-6 inches so pot accordingly. Once the growths get long and a little out of control you can divide the plant leaving at least two growths per division. You can also pot some together to make a larger specimen plant.
The flowers emerge in spring and summer and sometimes in the fall. The scent is like honey dew melons with a touch of passionfruit or mango. This plant likes warm conditions with medium light levels somewhere between phalaenopsis to Cattleya conditions. If you are in south Florida you can mount this in a shady tree and let it climb to the top. These plants are from our own private collection.
