Native to the rainforests of Brazil in the state of Espirito Santo, where it grows in dappled sunlight enjoying a wide range of temperatures. The colors can vary a bit but are heavily saturated in red and burgundy appearing as black. This orchid typically flowers in the fall, winter or spring often flowering twice per year. We have found these grow best in New Zealand sphagnum moss, watering when the moss is lightly damp to the touch. These have long lasting flowers and have been known to flower 3-4 times per year especially with larger multi growth plants. We sell divisions of our very best clones. These were all originally collected plants from decades ago. The 'Rio Negro' clone has slightly more red/black color.
