Description
This is a beautiful terrestrial species with nice mottled foliage and a contrasting red flower spike that always blooms around late December. Click on the close-up image to see what it will look like in full bloom. These are different from Stenorrhynchos speciosum that has much larger leaves with lighter green foliage and more white mottling in the foliage. The flowers are also a bit lighter red in color and are born on a taller spike.
This species is very easy to grow and does well, even in dry growing conditions. The roots are very large and have the ability to store moisture for long periods during drought. Grow these either in New Zealand sphagnum moss or a peat type mix. The dark red flowers are long lasting and perfect for the Christmas holiday season. Water the plant just as the mix approaches dryness.
The video below has the wrong name mentioned in the narration.Stenorrhynchos speciosum is a quite different species and can be found within our website.
