*As of 8/1 these have open flowers which still look good. We expect them to put out new spikes in the near future due to the size of the plants.

The first thing to note about this species is the fragrance! After the flowers have been open for a few days, the emit a very pleasant scent in the mornings! Our current batch of this species are huge and established specimen plants, which will continue to produce flower spikes as new growths emerge. Unlike most orchids, Zygopetalum produce new flower spikes as the new growth emerges, so whenever you see a new growth you know there will be flowers soon!

This species is native to Brazil, where it grows in cloud forests among rock outcrops. Although the flowers are compact, the plants grow quite tall. We keep them moist at all times and they love growing in New Zealand sphagnum moss.

These were just repotted into 6" tall pots with moss in July of 2024 and should last about one year before repotting as they grow fast!
