Description
The 'Minmaru' variety is a semi-round leaf type that stays compact. Flowers are like the standard type shown in the YouTube video.
Sedirea japonica, known as 'Nagoran' in Japan, is native to Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, Korea, and western Yunnan and Zhejiang provinces of China in subtropical forests. The flowers are well-known for their strong citrus scent. This plant prefers cool to intermediate temperatures with lots of air flow in a potting mix that breathes well. We have luck in sphagnum moss, but be sure not to over-saturate the moss with water, or it can be susceptible to rot.
Technically, the taxonomists have renamed this 'Phalaenopsis japonica'. But the structure and culture of this plant are so different that we prefer to call it Sedirea.
Growing culture is best in sphagnum moss or bark mix. These also do well mounted on slabs if you have consistently high humidity.
