Description
We had some old growth redwood sitting around in Jerry's (owner) garage for many years. Rather than throw it out or burn it we decided to have it made into Orchid baskets. This type of redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is the deep red-colored kind with a very tight grain from ancient trees. These baskets will last for 20-25 years at least and are beautifully made with sanded, rounded corners. Made by a local orchid society member who is a craftsman woodworker here in Minnesota. Redwood has properties within the wood that prevent fungal and bacterial problems and these properties are known to transfer from the wood into orchid roots and leaves, giving the plants added protection. These baskets are a little taller than the teak ones. We only have a few of these and once they are gone it may be some time before we find any more old growth redwood.
