Description
We have created kits for those who would like to try their hand at mounting orchids onto cork slabs, as epiphytic plants grow in the wild. This page was originally created for our workshop webinar class, which is still available for purchase via the archived webinar pages HERE.

These mounting kits include:

- Cork slab cut to size to match the orchid of your choice
- Sphagnum moss
- Green decorative moss
- Fishing line
- Eye screws to create a hanger with.

Here is an explanation of current choices, and plants can change throughout the year:

Brassavola Little Stars - This will be the best grower of all choices as it is very forgiving and can flower more than once per year. Its flower also produces a lovely fragrance in the evenings.

Bc. Hippodamia - Of all our Brassavola hybrids, this one possesses the darkest, most forest green to blue leaves of all!

Dendrobium papilio - An amazingly huge flower on slim, long canes. A species from the Philippines. This is not a beginner plant, but also not incredibly hard to grow. They do like moisture, so be sure to not let this one get dry for long periods of time.

Tolumnia variegata - A lovely miniature from the Caribbean that blooms in the early spring. This makes for an excellent slab plant and they multiply in great numbers over years of growing.

Cattleyopsis ortgiesiana - A miniature Jamaican species that is a great slab mount grower!

Sarcochilus Lois - A miniature Australian hybrid that is a great beginner slab plant!

Bulbophyllum collettii - A species from Thailand and Myanmar. Thick, tough foliage with flowers that smell like bean sprouts! This is a Souteast Asian lowland orchid, so it likes heat and humidity. You can get by without high humidity because we will be adding moss, but make sure you have temperatures in the 70's to 90's if you want to do great with this one !

Angraecum elephantitum - Another beautiful compact orchid from Madagascar. Don't let their compact size fool you, they produce very large flowers in proportion to the plant! Overall, they grow in conditions similar to the Phalaenopsis (but are also cool tolerant) , making them a great beginner plant! Just amazing!

Brassocattleya Yellow Bird - Grows really easily just like Little Stars, but produces yellow flowers. This is another B. nodosa hybrid which are excellent beginner slab plants.

**Note: If you are interested in just the Cork Slab Mounting Kit, which comes with a roughly 6 x 8 inch cork slab and accessories for mounting an orchid and hanging the slab that you have at home, that is available for purchase here.
