Description
Rossioglossum (AKA Odontoglossum) grande is native to Mexico, Guatemala and Belize where it grows at an elevation of 4,500 to 7500 feet in elevation. It is also known as the clown orchid or the Boca de Tigre or Mouth of the Tiger. The large 6-8 inch flowers can appear in spring and fall and usually are born on 12 inch stems with 5-9 flowers per stem. The waxy petals and sepals are yellow with chocolate tan markings. The plants we offer were grown from seed or are divisions of good ones we have collected over the years. They take several years to flower from seed. Rare in modern collections. Grow this plant in bright light and allow the potting mix to just appraoch dryness between watering during the spring and summer months in the fall and winter allow the mix to just dry out between watering. The flowers typically last for a couple of months.
