Description
Native to Peru, this species develops interesting 1/2" flowers colored in yellow with maroon red stripes on the lip. This plant flowers mostly in spring and fall and can continue putting out a number of flowers from each growth over time. These plants can also grow new plantlets at the base of mature leaves. Once these have a few leaves and roots about 3" long you can pot these up separately or back together with the mother plant.
This orchid grows best in New Zealand sphagnum moss with high humidity, shaded to semishaded light and cool to intermediate temperatures. However, they do tolerate the heat of summer here in the mid-west. If the plants get a bit dry at the roots when growing new leaves they can develop a crinkled look. To avoid this, make sure to avoid letting the potting mix dry entirely between waterings.
Please Note: These plants exhibit crinkling in a few of the newest leaves that grew after the dividing process.
