Description
Native to Colombia and described in 1922 this cool to warm growing species has very unique flowers that are reminiscent in shape of a water buffalo's horns. This low to medium light plant is very easy to grow and flower, in fact the plant is always in flower here at our nursery. The flower spikes are successive blooming and one flower spike can easily flower for a year or longer. The wide spoon shaped leaves are good at gathering light for photosynthesis even when the light is somewhat low. These prefer New Zealand sphagnum moss and want to be watered as the moss approaches dryness. Fertilize every third time you water. The plants are about 10" tall and the flower spikes can get to a foot tall or more.
