Paph. delenatii is native to Vietnam. This plant for many years was extremely rare in the western world as only a couple of individual plants were in existence in France; from these, seedlings were finally made but were slow-growing. In the 1980s, new plants had been discovered and sent around the world from these better forms that were found, including the Dunkel type with blackish undersides to the leaves and darker almost cherry red pouches. Larger forms were also found and some were colchicine-treated by Hans Burkhardt. From these, some true tetraploids were flowered although they were slow-growing. By using one of these tetraploid forms and crossing it to a very fine large diploid form, we were able to develop some very fast-growing strong plants with large flowers.

This cross is perhaps the best of the delenatii available today, producing huge flowers that are 10-12 centimeters across. These large-leafed plants, with leaves up to 5 cm wide on mature plants, will produce award quality flowers.

These are triploids that grow faster and flower more freely than diploids or even tetraploids. This species has the added bonus of fragrance with the flowers developing the scent of roses just a few days after opening.

2.25" seedlings should be blooming size in 2019. $100 size should flower winter of 2018.

IN SPIKE:
An orchid plant may arrive in bud, in bloom or in various stages of in-spike development. A plant in-spike can take anywhere from 1 week to 2 months before flowers begin to open. We are one of the few nurseries to ship orchids in spike or bloom. Most of the time our carefully wrapped orchids in-spike or in-bloom arrive in good condition. However, due to conditions beyond our control, we cannot guarantee that all flower spikes, flowers, or buds will arrive in perfect condition.

NOT IN-SPIKE:
An orchid will arrive while it is not currently spiking or blooming due to being either before or after its bloom season. Check the "Bloom Season" information on the product page to see when the plant is expected to spike and flower. Many orchid lovers and hobbyists prefer plants that are not in-spike in order to watch the first stages of the spike emerging all the way through to the reward of the bloom! If you are sending a plant as a gift, you generally want to send the plant in-spike unless the gift receiver would prefer otherwise.
